“His Performance Was Under Per” — Arsenal Star Criticized For His Performance Against Bournemouth
After Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Bournemouth, Glenn Murray claimed David Raya had his worst performance for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season and were reduced to 10 men in the first half when William Saliba was sent off.
Bournemouth took the lead in the 70th minute, successfully taking a corner kick from Ryan Christie. Things got worse for Arsenal when Raya brought down Evanilson in the box and Justin Kluivert converted the ensuing penalty to double the hosts’ lead.
Despite Raya’s outstanding form earlier in the season, former Premier League striker Murray slammed the Spanish goalkeeper’s performance against Bournemouth as “very poor”.
“I just felt as though from the off, they weren’t pressing Bournemouth with the same energy or life,” Murray told Premier League Productions. “Their mentality under Arteta is something I’ve praised a lot, but tonight, that wasn’t the Arsenal we’ve seen under him—it was like the Arsenal of old.”
Murray singled out Raya for the unusual mistake, adding:
“One player who hasn’t been spoken about much but was very under par for me and probably had one of his worst moments in an Arsenal shirt, is Raya. It was just silly little mistakes. His kicks went out of play, his passing was poor—he just wasn’t himself.”
But Murray credited Raya with making an important save, saying: “It wasn’t terrible. “That game at Arsenal was a particularly sloppy performance.”
Former midfielder Emmanuel Petit also assessed the performance of the whole team and pointed out that the whole team was not in good shape. “I think they were all on the same level today,” Petit said. “They looked physically and mentally exhausted from the start. There was no passing, no speed, no aggression. “It wasn’t the quality we’ve seen from Arsenal in recent years.”
Arsenal are now looking to bounce back as they try to reverse this rare Premier League setback.
