Jannik Sinner shockingly reveals how long his career will last.
Jannik Sinner has publicly stated that he plans to play tennis for the next 15 years, that is until he is 35 or 40.
The world number one has expressed hope that his body will “can hold on”, making it clear that he and his team are making decisions to extend his longevity.
Sinner, who turned 23 last August, seems determined to emulate the skills of the big three – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Federer retired at 41 in 2022 and Nadal (38) will retire next month. And Djokovic is still an elite player at age 37.
Entering 2024, Sinner has won seven titles, including two majors, and has compiled a 65-6 record so far in a fantastic season. In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, Sinner revealed that he plans to continue his career for more than 10 years.
“They say that 15 years is a long time, but it’s not, because I arrived here in the hotel, the same hotel, same room, and I realized this year passed really fast.
“So, we are trying to make all the possible choices to continue playing tennis for as long as possible for my body, but we also can’t waste time.
“It’s a nice balance of improvement, working with the desire to win and having around the people you want and who you know can help you.”
Ahead of his appearance at this week’s Paris Masters, Sinner was asked if being ranked No. 1 in the world would bring added pressure.
“Honestly I don’t think so much about this,” the 23-year-old told Eurosport. “This is something I’ve worked my whole life, you know, to be world No 1. Now I am there and I just try to enjoy it.
“Every match you have a lot of pressure, you have a lot of expectations, but this pressure and expectations start from my side because I want to win and prove to myself that I am capable of winning these kinds of matches.
“Of course it’s never easy, you know, to be in that position, but I always say it’s a huge privilege to be in this position and I try to enjoy some good tennis. The rest I cannot control.”
