Top rated Arsenal target hints on Premier League move
Top rated striker who is linked with a move to Arsenal has confirmed that the striker is now set for a move to the Premier League.
Arsenal target Santiago Jimenez has expressed his desire to move to a competitive league despite turning down a Premier League opportunity last summer.
The 23-year-old Mexico international has made a huge impact since joining Feyenoord from Cruz Azul in 2022, scoring 53 goals in 93 games and playing a key role in the club’s 2023 Eredivisie title and 2024 KNVB Cup under the leadership of the current Liverpool coach Arne Slot at the time.
Jimenez’s performance has attracted attention across Europe, including Nottingham Forest last summer. However, the striker decided to stay at Feyenoord, partly because the club’s offer did not suit him as he wants Champions League football.
Although he has ruled out a move to City Ground, Jimenez believes he could continue his career in the near future.
“From the moment I arrived here, I was told, and I have seen, that this club trains and sells players,” he told Dutch outlet 1908. “I have seen it in the last transfers, where 15 players were sold. That gives you the confidence that if you do well, your dream of playing in the top five leagues in the world will come closer.”
Gimenez has spoken about his decision not to join Forest. He said he was considering leaving after two years in Holland, but the Champions League competition with Feyenoord was the deciding factor.
“We thought it was the perfect time to leave, but in the end, there were things that were not in our hands,” he said.
“There were two offers on the table; the one that came up was from Nottingham, and the truth is that we had a lot of doubts. We decided to stay primarily for the Champions League.”
Arsenal, who were first linked with Jimenez last year, are attracting attention as fans demand more attacking options due to the erratic form of Gabriel Jesus.
Arsenal’s ambitions could rise even further, especially if they look for reinforcements in January or next summer.
Liverpool, managed by former Feyenoord boss Slot, are also a potential destination, with Tottenham showing an interest in him before signing Dominic Solanke in the summer.
Jimenez, currently sidelined with a hip injury, could still be on the radar of several top clubs, with a move to one of Europe’s elite leagues looking inevitable.
