Bukayo Saka sends a simple message to Arsenal teammates after Newcastle blow
Bukayo Saka send message to his Arsenal team-mates as the club’s Premier League ambitions suffered a blow after the Gunners lost 1-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Arsenal, who are seven points behind leaders Liverpool, are on a three-match winless run, including a defeat against Bournemouth and a draw against Liverpool.
Newcastle, who have gone five games without a win, secured the three points after Anthony Gordon’s cross and Alexander Isak’s header broke through the Arsenal defence.
Arsenal’s best chance came from Declan Rice but the Gunners struggled in attack and only had one shot on target. A performance that signaled the absence of injured captain Martin Odegaard.
Bukayo Saka, who has led the team in Odegaard’s absence, appealed for unity in the face of the latest setback in a post shared on Instagram. He said:
“We stick together!”
Meanwhile, manager Mikel Arteta is not concerned with Arsenal’s league standings, instead focusing on the need to improve in their Champions League clash against Inter Milan.
Asked about Arsenal’s title run, Arteta stressed the importance of focusing on consistency.
“It’s not about hoping to win, it’s about doing our best every week. We didn’t make the best choice today,” he said.
Arteta also dismissed suggestions that Arsenal’s title ambitions were putting pressure on the players.
“I didn’t have it,” he said. “What we felt was that we lacked the threat and intensity to hurt them when we got in behind. We gave too much control to Newcastle and too many free-kicks, which disrupted our flow.”
Former Arsenal captain Martin Keown has voiced his concern over the team’s recent form and raised concerns about the BBC’s final report.
“There is still a long way to go and Arsenal have a lot of work to do to catch up with City and Liverpool. They weren’t in the race today. It will be difficult in the dressing room. Now it’s the time to show up, we can all come together and play like champions.”
