Former Arsenal star who played under Mikel Arteta is embarking on a coaching career.
Mikel Arteta has inspired many footballers to take up coaching, as former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny currently holds a UEFA certified Coaching ‘A licence.’
Former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has announced that he has successfully completed his UEFA A License, a significant step towards his coaching ambitions after leaving Arsenal earlier this year.
The Egyptian joined Arsenal for £5million from Swiss club Basel in 2016, making 161 appearances and helping the club win the FA Cup in 2017. Elneny’s final season at Arsenal was marred by a knee injury which saw him make just eight appearances in all competitions in the 2022/23 campaign.
Last May, Elneny announced his departure in an emotional video message. After his contract expired, Elneny moved to Al Jazira in the Emirates Pro League as a free agent. Despite his move to the UAE, the 32-year-old midfielder is keen to improve his coaching skills.
On Sunday, he proudly announced that he has received a UEFA license that will have a positive impact on the world of football!
Elneny has publicly expressed his ambition to become a Premier League manager, with his father even saying he would like to manage Arsenal one day.
“I dream of becoming a coach in the Premier League. Being a coach is more difficult than being a player,” Elneny said at the 12th Sharjah Ramadan Majlis earlier this year.”
In addition to his coaching ambitions, Elneny opened his own club, Elneny FC, in October 2023. The club plans to hold exhibition games for the first and second teams and set up a youth academy to give professional club players a second chance.
Elneny plans to start playing friendlies this year as he hopes to integrate the club into the Football League pyramid. In an interview with the BBC, he revealed his long-term vision.
“When I told a lot of people I wanted to play in the Premier League one day, they laughed. Some people understand that. But for me, I like to dream.”
Now that he has achieved UEFA coaching status and a new club has been founded, Mohamed Elneny is focused on his next football adventure and is determined to make a lasting impression as both a coach and a club founder.
