Jannik Sinner may know his fate before the 2025 Australian Open

2024 was the year Jannik Sinner established himself as the best player in the world, recording countless numbers from January until today.

The Italian ace has had one of the best seasons in modern times and has the chance to win the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin in 2024. Here he will be the overwhelming favorite to lift the trophy.

The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria lost six times during the season and won two Grand Slam tournaments and three Masters 1000. Despite the impressive results on the tennis court, Jannik was subjected to long doping tests. An incident that shocked him.

The world number one cooperated fully with the authorities and was cleared by the ITIA before the start of the US Open, where he emerged victorious against local idol Taylor Fritz in the final.
During the tournament in Beijing, the Italian champion received the news that WADA has filed an appeal against the ITIA acquittal and that the case is far from over. The final sentencing date is not known, but Sinner is expected to learn his fate in early 2025 (it is not known if this will be before or after the Australian Open).

The two-time Grand Slam champion has focused more on tennis in recent months and while the doping scandal has not affected his results, Jannik admitted he has been awake for a few nights.

WADA did not ask for a shortened trial, but asked for a ban of one to two years for the world number one, who cooperated in every way possible to show that the contamination could not have been prevented by any means.

Goran Ivanisevic, the former coach of ATP legend Novak Djokovic, defended Sinner in a lengthy interview with Sport Klub. “Tennis need Jannik sinner.” He said

At Cilic, we have dealt with WADA and similar organizations and we have experience in this. There are a lot of sophisticated people out there who want to ruin someone’s life. “I’m looking forward to a positive result from the Italian champions,” he said.

Goran also mentioned the rivalry between Jannik and Carlos Alcaraz:

“They are different players, but when they are both good, I think Sinner is better. Alcaraz was consistent throughout the game whether he was able to go from a perfect shot to an easy foul or not. Carlos has suffered some inexplicable losses this year.

“Take Novak out of the equation and they are dominant and far better than anyone on tour. No one can stand against Sinner and Alcaraz.

“Zverev has too many ups and downs. He plays great up to a point and then comes a game where he really has to be at his best. Then he fails, and you need to be at your best against Alcaraz and Sinner. .”

Jannik and Carlos won two major titles in 2024, but the Italian ace was much more consistent throughout the season. Despite suffering just six defeats since January, the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria has reached at least the quarter-finals at every tournament he has entered.

The Spaniard, on the other hand, has had his share of problems. Most notably, he finished second at the Masters 1000, beaten by Sascha Zverev. The Italian ace will have to defend his title at Melbourne Park in January, but he will likely retain his number-one spot in the ATP rankings if he is not disqualified.

Meanwhile, the two-time Grand Slam champion is likely to win the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin next week and tie tomorrow. What’s even more surprising is that Jannik has managed to keep improving despite reaching the pinnacle of the men’s tournament.

The world number one recently trained with former ace Radek Stepanek in Monte Carlo to become more proficient at the net.

Jannik, who missed the Rolex Paris Masters due to a stomach ailment, arrived in Turin early and began work at the ‘Circolo La Stampa’ court. He is expected to make his debut in Turin on Sunday or Monday ahead of his rivals.
