Boulter Has Been Defeated Out of The Pan Pacific Open Semi-final In Straight Sets
Katie Boulter the British number one missed out on a place in the Pan Pacific Open final after a straight-set loss by American wildcard Sofia Kenin in Saturday’s semi-finals.
The 28-year-old was looking for his third title of the year but lost to the former world number four 6-4, 6-4 after an hour and a half in Tokyo.
Boulter broke twice in the first set and Kenin countered one of the breaks the first time she served for the set, but she did not break again and the 2020 Australian Open champion secured the set at the second time of asking.
Kenin had to save four break points in the sixth game of the second set but leveled at 3-3 and beat Briton in the next game to advance to the final. After defeating Olympic champion Diana Schnaider (Russia) 7-6 (7-5) 6-3, she will face Chinese favorite Zheng Qingwen in this match.
Zheng advanced to the finals of the competition for the second time, after losing to Liudmila Samsonova in 2022.
