Jackson Has Equaled Goals Tally With Two Former Blues
Nicolas Jackson’s goal against Newcastle meant he equaled Fernando Torres’ Premier League tally at Chelsea.
The Senegalese star scored his 20th Premier League goal for the Blues in their 2-1 win over Magpies on Sunday.
Jackson achieved this milestone with 66 games behind Premier League icon Torres. It took just 44 games for current Chelsea striker Torres to score 20 goals, compared to 110 appearances. Jackson’s strike on Sunday was one of the simplest of his collection, following Cole Palmer’s perfect pass to Pedro Neto in his own half.
Neto finished off the counter-attack with a powerful pass to Jackson at the front of the goal post and Jackson found the back of the net. After Alexander Isaac’s equalizer, Palmer became the hero of Chelsea’s brilliant second-half victory as he scored with a powerful shot.
But Jackson’s effort marked his sixth goal of the season in all competitions, with the forward also providing three assists. So in addition to the 14 Premier League goals he scored in all competitions last season, he has gotten 20 and that has equaled Torres and Crespo’s Premier League goals for Chelsea. Jackson is also the 30th player to score 20 goals in the competition for the Blues.
The Senegalese star has sparked controversy in his debut season, with some Blues fans complaining about his wastefulness in front of goal. But he has improved even more this season and scoring 20 Premier League goals in a short space of time has given fans the belief that he can lead Chelsea’s forward line.
Although Torres never regained his best form at Stamford Bridge, he established himself as one of the Premier League’s greatest-ever players during his time at Liverpool.
The former Spain star has scored a total of 85 Premier League goals in his career. Many say Torres failed after moving from Liverpool to Chelsea, but he went on to win the Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup with the Blues.
However, Nicolas Jackson has surpassed Kai Havertz’s league goals for Chelsea, scoring his 20th PL goal. He has done it in 48 fewer games and has also more assists.
Jackson will no doubt be hoping to do more for the club.
