Novak Djokovic was named the GOAT and the most impactful player by history-making Tennis star
Novak Djokovic has been called the GOAT and the most impressive tennis star of all time.
The former world doubles number one highlighted Djokovic’s consistency and the obstacles he has overcome while singling out the Serbian as his most impressive player.
Djokovic holds the record for most Grand Slam titles won with 24, while rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are second and third on the men’s list with 22 and 20 respectively.
The 37-year-old also won the most Masters 1000 titles (40) and the most ATP Finals titles (7), finishing the season at ATP World No. 1 (8) and having a record 428 for weeks on top of the ranking.
Djokovic was the only male athlete to win the Paris Olympics last August. In addition to the gold medal, Djokovic has won all four Grand Slams, now nine Masters 1000 events, and several ATP Finals.
Novak Djokovic’s big decision is ‘just around the corner’ as the race for an ATP Finals spot continues.
In his interview with Clay, Bopanna did not hesitate to pick Djokovic as the best player in the history of men’s tennis.
“Novak Djokovic is amazing how consistent he has been over so many years,” Bopanna said. “I’ve been around everybody for a long time, but I think Novak has been able to overcome a lot of obstacles. His consistency has been amazing.”
The Australian Open doubles champion was also asked which player has had the biggest impact on the sport. “And Novak, no doubt,” replied Bopanna.
Bopanna topped the ATP doubles rankings last January at the age of 43 years and 326 days, becoming the oldest world number one in tennis history.
The 44-year-old said he plans to continue his playing career as long as he enjoys playing and traveling.
“I still love the competition and traveling, Yes. Why not? And my family is with me at the Grand Slam. My wife is here and my daughter is with us,” said Bopanna. “I never thought my daughter would watch me play live. If I had given up at 35, this wouldn’t have happened. “Today he can say that his father was a tennis player.”
